The Book in the Attic Celia Journey Book 1 Melissa Gunther 9780981947044 Books

On this book I am about a 3.5 star, this book and series reminds me a lot of Harry potter but Celia does not go to wizard school. Celia goes to a school for gifted kids that have extra abilities. Celia is the most gifted of the seventh years and maybe the most gifted since her parents. I am on the fence about this book honestly. The characters are ok and I don't like a few because they pick on and bully Celia but I'm not sure how much I will get into the rest of the series. I would read book and decide from there. The book got me to keep reading more.

Nice easy read appropriate for all ages. This story flows well enough to make me eager for the next one
The similarities were a bit too much to be coincidental, yet try as you might, it couldn't surpass HP, much less duplicate. A good writer, but wish had more originality; maybe in book two.
This book is a five star because it gives lessons about NOT doing pranks, especially on other people, then accusing them. It also has lessons about friendship. Living in a new world is just like moving to another house. You have to get used to the environment and soon it will seem normal again. Anyway, can't wait to read the next book!! 3
Not complex. Interesting premise & magical abilities but very little in the way of character development and plot evolution. Spoiler the villains admitted their guilt & confessed as soon as they were asked. If I had a dime for every time the heroine was warned about danger but never given any details I'd be very very wealthy. Not planning on reading the rest of the series. Celia comes across as very naive and one dimensional. She's nothing and then she's the most popular and smartest and most athletic and all with no effort. And even by the end of the book you and Celia know little to nothing about her past & she seems only very mildly concerned about it all.
The Book in the Attic by Melissa Gunther is a good middle grade reader. As this is book one of a series, the author does a great job of setting up many angles from which to continue the story. Think female Harry Potter for the lead, Celia. She's magically powerful without knowing it. I'd like to see more dialogue and descriptive action instead of being told what Celia is thinking... or what she's guessing. And there is some repetition of names instead of pro-noun use, dialogue not matching what the character is said to be feeling... small things that I don't think would actually bother a middle grade reader as they're not terribly heavy in the book. The author does a good job of defining the character of the people in the story. You get a real feel for who each person is and the story mostly takes place in a school so there are a lot of different personalities at play. This book is what I call good clean fun! If you like easy readers, give it a try! If you have a middle schooler, give them the gift of this book!
Celia will take you on a great adventure. If you like Harry Potter books, then this is the book for you.
This was a pretty good book. It has a pretty good story and interesting characters. Once I started reading this book couldn't stop reading it. Can't wait to read book two.
